In July, Qsan has officially launched two new models of storage/RAID controllers: P50/100C and S150/300C. Samples will be generally available in early August.
P50/100C (P50C for 8bay or less, P100C for 9~16bay), iSCSI-SATAII, is the latest member of Qsan iSCSI lineup. It is cabling design to fit in different enclosures in a flexible way without the need of a custom-built back plane. The iSCSI offload chip, which is featured in P60/120C, is excluded from this new product. P50/100C is priced aggressively to address highly cost-conscious segment such as surveillance and consumer/SOHO. Its mission is to trigger application needs outside of traditional RAID storage by showing significant IP-based storage benefits. Given this positioning, quite a few advanced storage features are removed, such as snapshot, Windows VDS/VSS support, trunking/LACP and SSL management. These features are offered in P60/120C for storage customers who require advanced storage features by paying extra premium.
S150/300C (S150C for 8bay or less, S300C for 9~16bay) is SAS-SATAII RAID controller. It is the very first SAS product from Qsan. The product is designed to fit the industry trend that host-side is embracing SAS much more rapidly than HDD side. Same as S60/120C, this model is built around Intel XScale IOP80331. End users are given the opportunity to enjoy the benefits SAS brings over, such as better cabling, point-to-point topology, full-duplex in nature and so on. Qsan design-in partners are able to launch S150/300C-based products without extra efforts due to identical back plane requirement as S60/120C. SAS full performance will be demonstrated in Qsan's next-generation product -- S500C, SAS-SAS, which is now in development stage at full speed.
"By introducing these two products in the beginning of 2006 Q3," said Eric Kao, managing Qsan sales & marketing, "Qsan sets the tone to be the leader in iSCSI and SAS arena, both are pre-mature, both are with explosive growth potential."
